Questions From American State Papers Legislative and Executive of the Congress of the United States commencing March 3, 1789 and ending March 3, 1815 Vol 1page 869 commisioners certificate July 12, 1805 Land Claims in the Mississippi Territory there is a claim for The legal representative of John Campbell deceased the Original Grantee is John Campbell 500 acres on the river Mississippi given by the British on February 11, 1772.
in 1803 the Grignon Tract indicates was first purchased by John Campbell who put his son John in place to run the portage and later his son Duncan ran the business. The Genealogy of the First Metis Nations records on Table 1 Genealogies of the Red River Households 1818 -1870 male head of household #662 John Campbell race Eur birthplace blank date 1775 with female head of household Catherine Demontigny race Ind birthplace blank date 1778 this information raises these questions for me --- 1 The date of birth most of use for Archibald Campbell is 1775 - if land was granted by the British in 1772 he must have been an adult at that time - the birth date would be incorrect 2 If John Campbell is shown with spouse Catherine Demontigny in the Red River households after 1818 ---this is 10 years after Archibald's death so is it possible that Archibald's son John was married to Catherine Demontigny
This is just food for thought - any ideas out there

Thanks Despi. Cousin Barbara and Aunt Merle and I have been working on this interesting info on the Campbell Clan. I have only been involved for two years. Aunt Merle for at least twenty years, and I am unsure how long Cousin Barbara has been involved. Together we have a great chance of success!!! They are from a different line but they all go back to Archibald John Campbell.

Hi Herman - Gee, I have never heard of Archibald John Campbell referred to as a junior. Can you tell me where to look for that information? Barbara
